Protection of the environment and climate

Protection of the climate and the atmosphere is one of the most important tasks of our time.

  • The protection of the climate and the atmosphere is one of the greatest challenges of our time. HiPP has been saving energy and raw materials for years through consistent environmental management. Since 2011, products have been CO2-neutrally produced at Pfaffenhofen.

HiPP also has climate-neutral productions in Austria, Hungary and Croatia. HiPP is a member of the “Economy for Climate” initiative.

Through consistent use of renewable energies, HiPP has been able to reduce CO2 emissions by roughly 90% in the last 14 years. Compared to in year 2000, approximately 14,000 tonnes less of CO2 was produced in 2014. In order for the Earth to absorb this amount of CO2, a forest the size of roughly 5,000 football pitches would be needed.

Water

Water consumption per tonne of production has been reduced by about 70%, from 22.8m³ (1971) to 8.5m³ (2014).

Electricity

100% of our electricity is produced by hydroelectric power, saving 3,978 tonnes of CO2 per year.

We are absolutely against electricity generated by nuclear power.

Heating and process heat

Since 2001, we have obtained our heating from the biomass cogeneration plant in Pfaffenhofen. Together with extensive thermal insulation on the buildings, it saves 8,344 tonnes of CO2 a year.

Recycling

We consistently use resource-saving recycled paper in our offices, advertising material and packaging.

99% of our waste is recycled.

Waste prevention

We use less packaging materials. Thinner film coating and lighter HiPP jars achieve significant savings. Every packaging must be more ecologically beneficial than its predecessor.

Logistics

The reduction in weight of packaging by 5,300 tonnes per year means 265 fewer lorry loads. Fewer resources are used and fewer emissions.

Mobility

HiPP offers its employees the incentive of changing to environmentally-friendly modes of transport. Staff who comes to work by public transport or bicycle gets the costs or kilometre allowance back. In addition, we regularly offer programmes to save petrol.
